I am a woman of heart...
An attribute I admire about myself is my dedication to my community and my determination to always impact the world around me. As a kid, I loved to read and get lost in my imagination and dive into the wonderland that books created for me. When I recall my childhood, I remember spending hours upon hours doing the pass time I was most passionate about...READING! I decided to get involved and sign up for the volunteer position at Downey City Library. My service at Downey City Library included helping children of all ages excel their reading levels feel confident and comfortable with their reading skills. They even progressed their reading abilities through the following weeks. I found a deep sense of accomplishment that I helped young children succeed and find pleasure in reading. I took pride in volunteering for my community no matter how small the action was.
This experience was an eye-opener for me and gave me the power to really show my community all that of which woman is capable. I decided to work for Around the World Children's Center in Downey. I worked in the bookstore organizing, creating lessons and projects for the children, including tutoring children and hosting story time at snack time. My passion for reading helped me to inspire so many children. This showed me that volunteering can lead to many opportunities where I can show not only my community, but the world how powerful and impactful my actions can be.
